Abdikhayr H. Soofe
African Outreach and New American Initiative Coordinator
Abdikhayr H. Soofe has been with the City of Columbus, Community Relations Commission as an African Outreach Coordinator and New American Initiative since May 2011. He has Bachelors Degree in Sociology and currently pursuing his Masters in Public Administration. Mr. Soofe has 12 years experience in public service. Previously worked for Franklin County Clerk of courts of Common Pleas and Franklin County Municipal court Clerk where he held different positions while continuing to provide consultations on cultural competency, community and constituent relations to the courts.
As part of mayor's New American Initiative for community engagement and empowerment, Mr. Soofe works very closely with the new American community leaders to promote civil rights, equal opportunity, inclusion, and integration as well as cross cultural diversity. He regularly hosts educational panel discussions on housing, employment, public accommodations, and for law enforcements issues. Also provides trainings about host of other topics including: Demographic changes, Developing Healthy Models, Fictions vs. Facts about immigrants, youth delinquency, Somali and Horn of Africa specific cultural issues.
Mr. Abdikhayr Soofe is the editor of the Columbus Community Relation's Quarterly E-Newsletter, The Community Focus that covers wide range of topics including cultural, racial, ethnic identity as well as community resource information, access to education & employment, public awareness, and community connections. Additionally, Abdikhayr cohosts Global Columbus Show, a monthly 1 hour program on CTV to educate Columbus residents about the diversity of the city.
Mr. Soofe received numerous trainings, recognitions and awards from various National & Central Ohio based institutions. He is a graduate of FBI Citizen's Academy class of 2012 and Pan African Award Winner from Federations of African Organizations of Ohio.
Prior to joining the mayor's office, Mr. Soofe has also served as linguistic and cultural consultant to various agencies and organizations including the Supreme Court of Ohio, the Columbus Legal Aid Society, Community Refugees & Immigration Services, Columbus State Community College and other public and private institutions.
Mr. Soofe is currently member of the board of directors of Focus Academy of Northern Columbus, United Nations Associations Columbus Chapter, Ex officio member for Federations of African Organizations of Ohio, Ohio Refugee Advisory Council, and Somali Law Enforcement Advisory Council.
