In accordance with Columbus City Code 139, the community relations commission was created and established to recommend ways and means of initiating and improving city government programs designed to eliminate discrimination or to remove the effects of past discrimination.

The Community Relations Commission is also authorized to investigate, mediate, conciliate and conduct hearings on complaints alleging discrimination and to work with the City Attorney to prosecute cases where discrimination has occurred against individuals in employment, housing and public accommodation because of race, color, religion, national origin, ancestry, sex or sexual orientation, age, disability, pregnancy, familial status, and gender identity or expression or that interfere with their civil rights.

In performing these functions, the commission shall strive to increase the effectiveness of these programs, to increase the fairness with which these programs are operated and to increase inter-departmental harmony in the operations of these programs.

Regular Meetings:  The Community Relations Commission holds regular meetings as needed - generally on the 3rd Thursday of the month at 1111 East Broad Street at 9:00 am.   Meetings are subject to cancellation or rescheduling. You are encouraged to contact the Community Relations Commission at (614) 645-1862 for meeting confirmation.
